Building a thriving community

Our area population has expanded rapidly, so it is important to welcome residents and visitors into an active, inclusive community. InOurArea is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant, interconnected community in local Sussex and Hampshire towns and villages.

We promote sustainable practices and unique educational and cultural experiences, like arts and food festivals and heritage trails. We promote local heritage and enrich lives through community leisure, arts and transport projects, like the Bourne Bus.

Join us in building a strong, dynamic local community and economy that helps and supports everyone.

Our mission

InOurArea is a community-based CIC but with no profit motive. We create and support projects that benefit local areas and organise, consult, fund and run local projects to develop a thriving and interconnected community.

Our focus is on celebrating heritage, history, nature and art, enriching lives through collaborative effort and project coordination and management, with lots of fun on the way!

Our approach

Our projects are designed to encourage community participation from residents and visitors of all ages. We also embrace sustainable practices for long-term benefits.

We build a vibrant local economy for residents, visitors, and small businesses by developing unique educational, leisure and cultural experiences. These include our two QR code mobile trails that help boost mental and physical health.

How we help local towns and villages

Community mobility

The Bourne community bus - www.bournebus.co.uk

Founded in 2022 by Andrew Kerry-Bedell, and now managed by In Our Area, the Bourne Bus provides essential transport for residents, connecting communities and reducing isolation.

With 15 seats and a disabled access electric tail lift and electric sidestep, this bus ensures accessibility for all members of our community, offering convenient and reliable travel options. The bus runs Tuesday to Friday and picks up at 30 safe local stops in many Bourne villages that no longer have public buses.

The bus also enables children at Bourne Community College to stay for after-school sports, leisure and learning activities and is available for low-cost hire to local social and leisure groups.

Heritage and nature trails

The Bourne heritage trail - www.bournetrail.co.uk

Discover the rich history and natural beauty of Bourne villages through a curated heritage trail of 60 sites. It offers educational insights and enjoyable outdoor experience and exercise for all.

The Langstone Loop trail - www.langstoneloop.org.uk

Explore diverse ecosystems and historical landmarks along the Langstone Loop. This trail promotes environmental awareness and appreciation for over 50 local natural and cultural assets.

Community impact

We are proud of the positive impact our heritage, arts, music, and food and drink projects have on the local community. Our efforts strengthen local bonds, promote well-being and enhance the unique character of our area.
